Why I do not have fix with L5 only
L5 (1176.45 MHz) is:
- newer
- higher power
- in a protected aviation band
- less impacted by multipath
- less jammed
You usually cannot get a GNSS fix with L5‑only because:
- Most receivers must acquire L1 first before they can use L5. [helpfiles….ysight.com]
- GPS L5 is still often flagged “unhealthy”, so receivers ignore it for navigation. [rntfnd.org]
- Not all GPS satellites transmit L5, so there aren’t enough signals for a standalone fix. [github.com]
